Is love entertainment?

A student asked me after class this morning if love is a form of entertainment. I am intrigued by the idea. When you think about it the events that occur when dating, which is how many fall in love, are entertaining. However, what about when you are in a committed relationship such as a marriage and there is no more courtship; is love entertaining then? What do you think?

Entertainment Definition

Below is the definition of entertainment according to Merriam-Webster dictionary. It may help you think about your essay #3 more.

Definition of ENTERTAINMENT
1
: the act of entertaining
2
a archaic : maintenance, provision b obsolete : employment
3
a : amusement or diversion provided especially by performers b : something diverting or engaging: as (1) : a public performance (2) : a usually light comic or adventure novel

Good PowerPoint Example

This video not only shows an effective PowerPoint, but it explains how to make one effective. The one thing I slightly disagree with here is the use of bullet points. The writer argues that bullet points are distracting and should not be used. However, I believe that a few bullet points is okay on a slide. The key word here is "few."

Bad PowerPoint Example

This video is humorous to watch but it really brings up some good points about things not to do in PowerPoint presentations. Many of these things may seem crazy to you and unlikely to happen, but I can assure you I have seen students do most of them.

Purdue OWL

The Purdue OWL is an excellent online handbook resource that can help not only with your group project topics, but your essays throughout the semester as well.

Welcome

We will use blogs to reflect on the reading, writing, and discussion we do in class this semester. Details of blog requirements can be found on the course website under assignments then blogs. Additionally, use your blog space to pose any questions relating to English 102 that you want to share with your classmates and me, any interesting or helpful class related items you come across, and to respond and communicate with your peers. Be sure to write not only on your own blogs, but on your classmates as well. In addition, be sure to take advantage of the affordances blogs have to offer. Use hyper links to link to material on other places of the web and put images, video, and any thing else available to you in your blog posts. Most importantly, have fun blogging!
